City of Saskatoon considers slashing fees at leisure centres

The City of Saskatoon is considering slashing fees for monthly passes at leisure centres to increase attendance. File / Global News

SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon isn’t making enough money off of its leisure centres. City administration is looking for a solution and is proposing decreasing the cost of a pass, rather than increasing prices.

The hope is that lower prices will result in higher attendance and, in effect, a higher return for the city.

Currently, an adult monthly pass is $75. City administration suggests slashing that to $38. A monthly family pass costs $150 but could be lowered to $76.

The target is to recover 65 per cent of the operation costs – last year admissions only covered 56 per cent.

The information was presented at Monday’s planning, development and community services meeting. A decision is expected by fall.
