SASKATOON – Expected to pay more this year for civic services in Saskatoon. From landfill charges to leisure centre admissions, costs have gone up in 2015.

Families can expect to shell-out a dollar more at leisure facilities. For adults, a single admission climbs 50 cents while the cost for a child is up 30 cents.

Those heading to the landfill will have to dig a little deeper to drop off their trash. While the entrance fee is unchanged at $10 dollars per visit, the general tipping fee is now $100 per tonne, a five-dollar increase.

Residential recycling fees are also up. The monthly cost for single-family residence roll-out cart is now $5.05.

The cost of electricity is also up. Saskatoon Light & Power customers will be paying an average of 3.0 per cent more this year, which matches the increase for SaskPower customers.

Water and wastewater costs are also up, with the typical bill increasing 9.5 per cent to more than $79. Part of the increase is to maintain the city’s ability to pump and treat water more efficiently.

“We have a lot of infrastructure replacement and upgrades from a new raw water intake that replaces old equipment,” said Troy LaFreniere, the city’s water treatment plant manager.

“We have a new pump station at 42nd Street and a new pump station plant at Avenue H and those are all part of the rate increase.

There is also the chance parking fees may be going up, however those increases have not been finalized.

Fees for animal services, building permits or for riding the bus remain unchanged in 2015.
