Donald Trump’s latest campaign poster promised his 3.2 million Twitter followers that the vitriolic candidate would “Make America Great Again.”
The red, white, and blue poster featured a portrait of Trump, stacks of cash, the White House, and soldiers. But the soldiers, as pointed out on Twitter, are wearing the uniform of Nazi Waffen SS troops from the Second World War.
Twitter user John Schindler, was the first to point out the soldiers weren’t American.

The troops, in the bottom right of the poster are Waffen SS dressed in late-war spot camouflage. The SS Eagle insignia can also be seen on the left arm of the soldiers.
The original picture came from the stock photo website iStockPhoto.com, and includes “German culture” and “Fascism” in the keywords associated with the image.
The photo was taken by photographer George Cairns at a Second World War reenactment near Kent, England, according to Mother Jones.
The tweet was deleted quickly and the campaign put the blame squarely on an intern, telling The Guardian that “a young intern created and posted the image and did not see the very faded figures within the flag of the stock photo.”
“The intern apologized and immediately deleted the tweet.”
It’s not clear how the now-deleted tweet will affect Trump’s popularity. But it coincided with the release a USA Today poll that showed Trump to be the leading candidate among a crowded field of Republicans with 17 per cent support.
