TORONTO – A security guard who fatally shot two people inside a Toronto McDonald’s in February will not face any criminal charges, according to Toronto police.
Donny Ouimette, 25, and Ryan Hind, 39, were killed after the uniformed guard discharged his weapon following a “significant physical altercation” with the two men in the early morning hours of Feb. 28.
Police say the guard, who was working nearby, also suffered minor injuries. No one else in the restaurant was hurt.
A police media release says an investigation into the deaths determined that “there would be no reasonable prospect of conviction.”
The lawyer for the security guard involved in the shooting had said the gun that was involved was “lawfully possessed.”
A spokesman for GardaWorld security company said the guard “has recovered from his injuries and has returned to work for the company.”
“The individual has recovered from his injuries and has returned to work for the company,” Joe Gavaghan, a spokesman for GardaWorld security company said in an email.
“We thank the Toronto Police Department for their support and thorough investigation of this incident.”
Craig Penney, the lawyer for the security guard, says he “continues to recover from his injuries.”
“He is grateful for the continuing support of his friends, family, co-workers, and company, and is appreciative of the professionalism of the Toronto Police Service,” he said.
“We thank everyone for their support, patience, and understanding.”
