Police release new evidence in April murder of John Kwiatkowski

EDMONTON – Nearly one year after a young father was brutally murdered in his home – Edmonton police are releasing new information in hopes of finding his killer.

On April 14th, 2011, the body of 29 year old John Kwiatkowski was found in his Rundle Heights home.

Police released a video Monday, revealing new evidence, with the hope it will help catch his killers.

The video tells the story of Kwiatkowski, who was home with his young daughter, when he was brutally attacked and murdered.

His wife came home from her night shift to find his body. His daughter was still in the house.

Police believe more than one person was involved. They have collected evidence like fingerprints, hair and a pop can left behind.

There was also an abadandoned Jeep Cherokee. Detectives believe one of the attackers was inside the Jeep because a pair of bloodied running shoes was left behind.

“Much of this new evidence is come as a result of exhaustive forensic work that has been going on and that work will continue,” says Detective Colin Derksen of EPS Homicide section. “Although this evidence is rapidly moving this investigation forward, we are still seeking assistance from the public to help solve this senseless murder.”

Police say a number of items was stolen from the home. They did recover Kwiatkowski’s video camera which was recovered inside the Jeep Cherokee.
