Taxi drivers asks Transport Minister to regulate industry

MONTREAL – Quebec taxi drivers met with Robert Poeti, the province’s Transport Minister, to request that he regulate business standards so all companies will have the same opportunities.

“Uber is one problem beside many problems,” said Abdullah Homsy, who works in the industry.

“We are taxis. We give services. We should provide more and give better services to resolve all the problems.”

Taxi drivers have come out many times to argue that it has been difficult for them to compete with online companies like Uber that offer credit card payments and ride sharing.

The industry is trying to up their standards so people will choose them over the private companies.
