Racing rabbits thrill Calgary Stampede crowd

Watch above: Bunnies were front and centre at one Stampede breakfast, hopping and racing to entertain the crowds. Gil Tucker reports.

CALGARY – Move over broncs and bulls – some slightly smaller creatures were wowing the crowd at a Stampede breakfast in Calgary on Tuesday.

Members of a local rabbit hopping club had their bunnies out racing around various obstacle courses.

The “hare-raising” excitement featured the competitors leaping over jumps and bouncing up and down miniature teeter-totters.

“We always call them the flying fur–come see the fur fly,” said club leader Terry Greening.

The rabbit wranglers say training them is actually easier than it might seem.

They encourage anyone who has a pet bunny to put together some homemade jumps and give it a try.
