VERNON – He was angry at his estranged spouse so he tried to burn down her rented house.
Now the Okanagan man is behind bars and owing a lot of money.
The fire was started on the outside of a Coldstream house on the morning of February 27th.
It badly damaged the structure and many of the contents.
The judge heard Michael Jason Holmes put together an arson kit of paper and kindling then made sure no-one was home before lighting the fire.
Holmes pleaded guilty to arson damaging property and was sentenced to 420 days in jail.
He was also ordered to pay restitution totaling $152,220 to his ex-wife, her landlords and their insurance company.
Holmes was once a volunteer firefighter.
