MELFORT, Sask. – Saskatchewan RCMP say fake oxycontin may be linked to a man’s death in a rural area of the province. On July 3, officers responded to a sudden death complaint at a residence in the Pleasantdale district.
When Melfort RCMP arrived, they found a deceased man. His name and age have not been released at this time.

Initial investigation has determined that counterfeit oxycontin pills may be related to the death, but this has not been confirmed. The investigation is ongoing.

RCMP say counterfeit oxycontin often contains a lethal dose of fentanyl. Oxycontin is no longer being produced in Canada and any medication being sold under the brand name should be considered fake and dangerous.
Investigators want the community of Pleasantdale and surrounding area to know that counterfeit oxycontin may be in the community.
