Melissa Fiacco has happily stepped up to care for cat who has been through so much.

Earlier this year the cat was found tied up by electrical tape, left outside in the extreme cold. The tape was severely restricting the cats’ circulation and caused massive tissue loss and infection.

He had to have several surgeries to save his limbs, and he lost eight toes in the process.

The Regina Humane Society said it’s been a long recovery for Bruce, but that he’s a determined little fighter who surprised many. His story inspired $24,000 in donations through a GoFundMe page.

Fiacco said it was a very emotional experience picking him up from the shelter Thursday. She said humane society staff had very tearful goodbyes with Bruce, who has had a big impact on many.

“The global response to Bruce Almighty was so compelling,” said Fiacco. “It is my wish that the compassion and concern Bruce experienced transcends into the way we respond to vulnerable people in our communities.”
