UPDATE: Cat found in Regina bound by electrical tape

UPDATE: The Regina Humane Society has removed Bruce Almighty’s bandages and re-assessed his injuries and have removed a total of eight necrotic toes.

The Humane Society is now working with specialists from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine about his treatment plan and at this point they are hopeful that Bruce Almighty will be able to keep all four legs but the risk of amputation remains.

REGINA – The Regina Humane Society (RHS) is investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty after a cat was found with severely injured limbs.

RHS staff were notified about a stray cat in the northwest area of Regina on Wednesday that had been found with electrical tape tightly bound across his legs and paws.

The tape was severely restricting the cats’ circulation and has caused massive tissue loss and infection.

The two or three year old cat reportedly collapsed into the arms of animal control officers and purred as staff started removing the tape which has destroyed the cats limbs.

The cat, which has since been nicknamed “Bruce Almighty” for his resilient spirit, underwent hours of emergency surgery as veterinarians tried to save his legs.

“He’s a cat with a powerful will to live and a powerful soul and we thought he needed a name to match that,” explained the Humane Society’s executive director Lisa Koch.

“He’s going to have more surgeries ahead of him and hopefully this story will have a happy ending,” she added.

Staff are hopeful that enough tissue remains to save his legs.

“The pain and suffering he has endured is unimaginable,” said Senior RHS Animal Protection Officer B. Lerat.

“He is fortunate that a caring member of the public alerted us to his whereabouts. The public really is our eyes and ears when it comes to reporting cases of neglect and abuse involving animals.”

RHS has also launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for the medical care that Bruce Almighty will need and by Friday morning RHS had already nearly $7, 000.

The Regina Humane Society is asking anyone that knows anything about this disturbing case of animal cruelty to call them at 306-777-7700.
