EDMONTON – Highway 63 in northern Alberta was re-opened early Tuesday morning, after being shut down to traffic due to a fiery, two-vehicle collision Monday night.
Around 6:30 p.m, a diesel truck and an SUV collided just south of Fort McMurray, at the intersection of Highway 881.
The diesel truck caught on fire and was blocking the northbound lanes of Highway 63, according to RCMP.
Both directions of Highway 63 were shut down to traffic as crews worked to contain the fire. The highway remain closed until early Tuesday morning.
Despite the fiery nature of the crash, there were only minor injuries.
RCMP were also called to another crash further south on Highway 63. A dump truck was heading south when it lost control and went off the highway into the ditch. The crash slowed traffic in the area for several hours.
