CALGARY – A former NDP member of the Alberta legislature wants to jump back into provincial politics.

Bob Hawkesworth says he plans to seek the NDP nomination for the byelection that is to be called in Calgary-Foothills.

Former premier Jim Prentice won the riding in the May 5 provincial election but quickly resigned when the Progressive Conservatives were swept from power.

Hawkesworth served two terms as the member for Calgary-Mountain View before losing the seat in 1993.

He also served on Calgary city council for 23 years.

No date has been set for the byelection.
