Preliminary inquiry date set for accused in deadly Beltline crash

CALGARY – A preliminary inquiry has been set for a 20-year-old man accused of killing two people in a Calgary car crash last month.

Ali Montoya is charged with criminal negligence causing death as well as impaired driving causing death, after he allegedly hit a cab on May 2, killing taxi driver Amritpal Kharbanda and his 25-year-old fare, Jillian Lavallee.

Montoya was released on $20,000 bail on June 3 and remains on 24-hour house arrest.

On Friday, a preliminary inquiry was scheduled for January 13, set to last two weeks.
