VANCOUVER – After resisting the move for years, the Vancouver School Board says one of its schools will be closing this fall.
Right now, there are just a few dozen students attending the Maquinna Annex, which is on 4th Avenue in East Vancouver.
The school is for kindergarten to Grade 3 and is just a few blocks from the main school, which is for kindergarten to Grade 7 students.
Discussions have been ongoing with the staff and the parents about closing the school as enrollment declined. Some parents have already transferred their children to the main school.
This decision comes on the heels of a report that stated up to 19 schools in Vancouver could close in order to save millions of dollars.
Staff at the Maquinna Annex will be transferring to other schools and no decision has been made about what to do with the school.
