WATCH: Cat holds on for dear life after stowing away on flight

TORONTO – As Indiana Jones and Samuel L. Jackson can attest: there’s nothing like discovering your airplane is harbouring an animal stowaway when you’re already in mid-air.

In this case, it wasn’t a snake but a black and white house cat who took an unexpected airplane ride over French Guiana in video posted to YouTube Sunday that has quickly gone viral.

For the first 45 seconds, it’s a standard cockpit camera view of pilot Roland Jantot, the chief pilot instructor at Club ULM 16-34 in Kourou, French Guiana, and his passenger taking off in an ultra-light aircraft.

“A standard flight until…” wrote Jantot in the video’s description. That “until” is revealed when a courageous and undoubtedly confused feline is revealed to be clinging to the metal frame of the aircraft.

In short order, Jantot noticed something was amiss with his aircraft, glanced up at the frame, and did perhaps the most epic double-take ever captured on film.

“I still don’t know if it got in after the pre-flight check or if I missed it,” he wrote.

Luckily for the cat, Jantot landed his plane shortly after noticing his “unexpected guest”, and – with a little convincing – managed to get her back on solid ground.

“The cat is doing well, she is still our mascot.”
