WATCH: Montrealers came out to support a new book featuring blog posts by jailed Saudi Arabian blogger Raif Badawi. Global’s Elysia Bryan-Baynes reports.
MONTREAL – A 62 page book containing 14 blog posts from jailed Saudi blogger Raif Badawi was unveiled in Montreal Tuesday.

The French language book called “1000 lashes” is a collection of posts written between 2010 and 2012.

Badawi was sentenced to 10 years in jail and 1000 lashes in Saudi Arabia.

He was found guilty of criticizing clerics, insulting Islam and breaking technology laws.

At the book launch, Badawi’s wife Ensaf Haidar took the opportunity to thank all the Montreal supporters to have lobbied to bring him to Canada.
June marks the third anniversary of Badawi’s imprisonment.
Badawi is not a Canadian citizen, although his wife and children fled Saudi Arabia in 2012 and settled in Sherbrooke in 2013.
