MS Bike Tour, Walk for ALS, Ride for Dad and more!

EDMONTON — It’s one of the busiest weekends for the Capital Region as several events and fundraisers take over roads and parks – all for great causes.

MS Bike Tour

The two-day cycling event helps raise funds for people living with Multiple Sclerosis.

The MS Bike Tour started at 7:30 Saturday morning in Nisku.

Participants cycle 180 kilometres – 90 kilometres each day – from Leduc to Camrose and back.

Global’s Mike Sobel and Daintre Christensen are taking part.

Walk for ALS

This walk is a family-friendly event that takes place across the country in more than 90 locations.

Thousands of Canadians take part in the Walk for ALS to join the fight against ALS, which is a progressive neuromuscular disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Global Edmonton station manager Tim Spelliscy was emcee for the event.

Every dollar raised goes to provide equipment, support services, education for the ALS community and to fund research to find a cure.

This year, in the event’s 15th year, participants and supporters raised more than $312,000. Last year the event raised $254,000.

Motorcycle Ride for Dad

The Ride for Dad is Canada’s biggest annual motorcycle event.

Hundreds of riders come out to raise money to fight prostate cancer.

It started at 10 a.m. Saturday at CFB Edmonton Garrison Training and Lecture Facility. Global’s Gord Steinke hosted the event.
