Canmore RCMP said Tuesday the woman had been hiking on the south side of Grotto Mountain near Exshaw when she fell.

Since the area—in the vicinity of Grotto Canyon—was only marginally accessible by foot, Alpine Helicopter located the woman’s body and brought her out with a sling. She was carried to paramedics, who determined she’d died on scene after suffering fatal injuries.

An adult male hiking partner was located uninjured and conservation officers helped him out of the area on foot.

RCMP and the Calgary Chief Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating; the death is not considered suspicious at this time.
