CALGARY – A 31-year-old Calgary woman is dead after falling during a hike at the Grotto Mountain Day Use Area in Bow Valley Provincial Park on Monday.
Friends have identified the woman as Suzanna Yee.
EMS crews from Canmore, Alta. were dispatched to the area for reports of a hiker who’d fallen down an embankment just before 2 p.m.
Canmore RCMP said Tuesday the woman had been hiking on the south side of Grotto Mountain near Exshaw when she fell.
Since the area—in the vicinity of Grotto Canyon—was only marginally accessible by foot, Alpine Helicopter located the woman’s body and brought her out with a sling. She was carried to paramedics, who determined she’d died on scene after suffering fatal injuries.
An adult male hiking partner was located uninjured and conservation officers helped him out of the area on foot.
RCMP and the Calgary Chief Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating; the death is not considered suspicious at this time.
