Timeline: The Jolene Cote murder investigation

Just before 7:00pm, 36 year old Jolene Cote was at the Edmonton Soccer Centre playing an indoor soccer game. She left around 9:50pm and stopped at a retail store on Stony Plain Road before heading home. Cote bought a few items and left the store at 10:40pm. This was the last place she was seen alive.

Thursday October 13, 2011

Spruce Grove RCMP say Cote was found dead by her husband, Michael Cote, in their home at 6:05am. RCMP say a 911 call was made around 6am although will not say who made the phone call. Their home is located in the Parkland County, northeast of Spruce Grove near the Edmonton Springs Golf course. The items Cote bought the night before were found in her vehicle, a 2002 silver Jeep Liberty. Cote was a grade 9 teacher who taught in Spruce Grove.

RCMP ruled that Cote’s death was a homicide however, no cause of death was released. RCMP Const. Barbara Roy said the cause of death is being withheld by police to keep the integrity of the investigation.

“If we find someone who we believe is a suspect, we can use that to narrow it down.”

Saturday October 15, 2011

RCMP scoured the area of Cote’s home for a third straight day, this time with the help of Parkland Search and Rescue. The search team walked side by side as they combed the property most of the day. A plane was also used to help in the search

About 1,000 people gathered for Cote’s funeral at a west Edmonton church, including her husband Michael, son Ayden, 6, and daughter Adison, 4.

Jolene Cote’s mother, Dorothy Commandeur, and two sisters, Rhonda Berg and Krista Knapp made a plea to the public, begging anyone with information to come forward to RCMP.

Cote’s family announced a $25,000 reward for anyone who provides information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of her killer.

Monday December 19, 2011

Friends and family of Jolene Cote held a silent auction and comedy show fundraiser in Spruce Grove. All the proceeds from the night went to the Jolene Cote Memorial trust fund. The money goes toward a reward to find the person responsible for her murder.
