WATCH: Truck tries to clear rail bridge, fails spectacularly

TORONTO – Police in one Massachusetts community would really, really like motorists to pay attention to their road signs – specifically, the ones reading “low clearance.”

Security camera footage posted to the Westwood Police Department YouTube page Monday shows a World Wide Moving truck approach the East Street Railroad Bridge in Westwood around 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The truck either doesn’t see, or decides to ignore, the “Low Clearance” sign hanging over the bridge as it proceeds at full speed toward 10 foot, six-inch bridge.

Standing at 12 feet, six-inches, the odds of the moving truck being able to clear the bridge are, well, not so good.

A couple of moments later, the top of the truck is given an impromptu automotive haircut by the low-hanging rail bridge.

No one was injured in the crash, and the driver of the moving truck was given a citation for failing to obey traffic laws and control signals.

But police in Westwood are growing exasperated with the number of incidents at the East Street Railroad Bridge, which saw 16 major accidents in 2014 caused by trucks attempting to clear the low bridge.

There have been four such accidents so far this year.

Even their Twitter posting about the accident has a certain sardonic apathy.
