Commuters stuck at LaGuardia Airport in New York City during a six-hour flight delay were treated to a rare sing-off worthy of Broadway. Because, well, it was straight from the city’s famed theatre district.
The casts of Aladdin and The Lion King who happened to be delayed as well treated trapped commuters to acapella renditions of hits from the respective musicals.
The battle began with The Lion King cast which opened with three minutes of “Circle of Life.”
James Inglehart, the Genie in Aladdin, responded with a long freestyle rap aimed at the opposing cast.
“You’ve been around for many years, y’all been making people laugh, people had some tears,” he said.
“As for us, we’ve only been around one but if you want to see a show then we’re going to have some fun.”
An eight-minute video of the airport concert was posted on YouTube by an onlooker who happened to also be stuck in the airport and has been viewed over a million times.
This isn’t the first time the cast of The Lion King has treated people to a public performance of “Circle of Life.” Last April, a video of the cast singing “Circle of Life” hit on a packed airplane was uploaded to the Disney on Broadway YouTube channel and quickly went viral, being viewed over 23 million times.
