EDMONTON – A 75-year-old man is in an Edmonton hospital in serious condition after he was stabbed outside the Wetaskiwin Walmart Thursday evening.

Police say the man was leaving the store around 5 p.m. when he dropped his keys on the way out of the building. A male suspect picked them up but wouldn’t give them back so a confrontation took place.

Police say the suspect attacked the senior with what’s believed to be a knife. The 75-year-old victim was taken to the Wetaskiwin hospital, but moved to a hospital in Edmonton due to the severity of his injuries.

The suspect left the scene in a vehicle but was apprehended by RCMP a short time after. Police believe drugs may have been a factor.

Steven Morris Firingstoney, 31, has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of stolen property.
