Seniors’ home evacuated in La Prairie

La Prairie – La Belle Epoque residence on the South Shore was evacuated Wednesday afternoon, after a carbon monoxide leak was detected.

Firefighters from La Prairie and five other districts were called to assist police and ambulances in the evacuation.

The residence is home to 150 seniors with varying degrees of autonomy.

All residents were safely evacuated and transported via shuttle bus to the Complexe Saint-Laurent where they were taken charge of by the city’s emergency personnel.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can cause headaches, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, coma and ultimately death.
