Skateboards now allowed on Montreal bike paths

WATCH: Montreal city councillors voted unanimously to legalize skateboards on Montreal bike paths Monday night. The new resolution recognizes that skateboards are a form of active transportation like cycling and walking.

MONTREAL -Montreal city council has approved a resolution permitting skateboarders on its bicycle paths.

Council adopted the resolution just one week after Sterling Downey, city councillor for Projet Montreal in Verdun tabled a motion to legalize skateboarding on Montreal bike paths.

Monday night, Downey tweeted that city council had adopted the motion unanimously.

Downey himself uses a skateboard to get around and has been doing so for over 20 years.

And now he can do so in all legality — at least on bike paths.
