On May 11 Ford underwent a roughly 10-hour procedure at Mount Sinai Hospital to remove a cancerous tumour from his abdomen. After the procedure doctors said they considered the operation a success.
Ford told reporters his tumour was donated for medical research purposes.
Ford, who will turn 46 on Thursday, will now continue his recovery at home. He lives in Etobicoke with his wife, Renata and their two young children.
Shortly before the surgery, Ford had said that not waking up was his biggest fear.
Ford said he plans to return to city hall for the Gardiner Expressway vote next month, and wants the city to keep the roadway.
