Surrey man planning Peace March for the community

VANCOUVER — A Surrey man is hoping to unite his community just by getting them to walk together.

In response to the recent surge of shootings in Surrey and  Delta, Mani Amar is organizing a Peace March on Sunday.

“I want to do an event where you just get a lot of like-minded people together, showing community support and unity and doing something positive,” said Amar.

Since March 9, police in Surrey and Delta have responded to 30 shootings. One man has already lost his life as a result. Amar fears there could be more.

“I think the issue is just going to explode. One death is going to become two, two is gonna become four, four is gonna become eight. It’s gonna blow up just like we’ve seen in previous gang wars,” he said, adding that even in his own neighbourhood, he doesn’t like what he’s seeing.
