Motorcyclist dies in hospital following collision in central Edmonton

EDMONTON – A 48-year-old man died in hospital Friday after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a pick-up truck Thursday night.

Police say the motorcycle was heading west on Princess Elizabeth Avenue near 106 Street around 10:30 p.m. when the collision happened. A pick-up truck that was heading east on Princess Elizabeth went to turn north onto 106 Street and collided with the motorcycle.

The 48-year-old man driving the motorcycle was taken to hospital where he died Friday. A 46-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. On Saturday police said the woman was still in hospital.

The driver of the pick-up truck suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Edmonton police say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

This is Edmonton’s second motorcycle fatality and eighth traffic fatality of 2015. On Monday, May 11 a 26-year-old female passenger died in a motorcycle collision in southwest Edmonton. A 60-year-old man has since been charged.

In 2014, there were no motorcycle fatalities in Edmonton.
