The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to feed President’s Choice Organics infant cereals to their babies because the babyfood may have “an unpleasant rancid odour, or taste.”
Loblaw Companies Limited is voluntarily recalling the 227g cereals, which include oat, wheat and rice cereals (plain or with fruit added) for babies six months or older, and mixed grains with apple cereal for babies eight months or older.
A news release from the national food watchdog said the affected products had been distributed nationally and one person has fallen ill from eating them.
“If the cereal has an unusual odour or smells ‘off’, it should not be consumed,” says the release.
“Consumption of rancid food may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.”
Concerned parents who’s child has eaten the product, and whose baby is exhibiting symptoms should call their physician.
