So-called ‘brain foods’ have the nutrients necessary to keep our minds functioning properly as we age.
“Your brain is a mass of cells, and when you think about nutrition, everything that goes into our body can impact our cells,” says dietician Lindy Kennedy.

Experts say, whether or not you eat these foods can mean the difference between staying sharp and developing dementia.
Diets high in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins C,D, E and B can help with brain functioning.
In fact, a study published in the Journal Neurology found seniors with diets high in these nutrients scored higher on mental thinking tests.
The same study listed trans fats as a food to avoid. It found people who ate too many of these foods not only scored lower on tests, but experienced brain shrinkage.
