Dorval golf enthusiasts taking battle to Ottawa

WATCH: Members and staff of the Dorval Municipal Golf Course are heading to Ottawa on June 2 to petition the Transport Minister to save the city’s green space. Tim Sargeant has details.

MONTREAL — Golfers of the nine-hole Dorval Municipal Course are hoping a petition with close to 12,000 signatures will convince the Transport Minister to intervene and save their beloved course.

About 90 members, residents, the local MP and Dorval city councillors plan to descend on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on the morning of June 2.

They’re hoping to convince Transport Minister Lisa Raitt to order the Aéroports de Montréal to find a new location to expand rather than take over the green space of the golf course.

The Trudeau Airport is ending its lease with the golf course at the end of the season to build a new security screening section for airport workers and other non travellers.

There will also be a depot centre and the airport will possibly use the land for a future light rail train service between downtown Montreal and the airport.
