Protest signs stolen from Dorval’s municipal golf course

DORVAL — The battle to save the Dorval Municipal Golf Course has taken an unexpected turn: two anti-expansion signs set up by the “Save Our Green Space” committee were stolen from the golf course.

“I would have to say it’s illegal,” said Bruce Orr, the golf club’s vice president.

The signs were set up on Friday in an on-going effort to fight the airport’s expansion plans.

But within hours, the signs featureing the slogan “Save This Green Space” were gone, visibly ripped off of the wooden frames.

“They left the frames but the signs were taken off,” said the golf club’s manager Glenn Barrette.

While police investigate, many told Global News they suspect they already know who’s to blame.

“We saw an ADM security truck beside the signs, and they were gone, literally ripped off,” said Orr.

The ADM didn’t respond to Global News’ request for an interview, but Dorval City Hall confirmed that the golf course did have an official permit to set up the signs.

“I don’t understand why they would try and do that,” said Orr, who insisted the signs were set up on city property, not on land owned by the airport.

While they’d love to get their signs back, the activists are not holding their breath.

“I mean, they cost us money so if they’re still in good shape, we’d like to have them back,” said Barrette.

In the meantime, new signs were delivered and installed late Tuesday afternoon.

Another clear sign that the golf course won’t go down without a fight.
