Teen becomes Edmonton’s second traffic fatality this year

EDMONTON – A 14-year-old girl is dead following a crash Tuesday morning at 98 Avenue east of 91 Street.

The teen was a passenger in a sports car that was traveling eastbound on 98 Avenue coming up the hill, when for reasons still unknown to investigators, the car she was in crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic, where it was hit by a small westbound minivan.

The teen was taken to hospital, but succumbed to her injuries just before 1 p.m.

The driver of the car was also taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The injuries of the driver of the minivan did not require her to be taken to hospital.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this collision. Traffic investigators are trying to determine if speed or road conditions played a role, though.
