More injured animals arriving at Winnipeg Humane Society

WINNIPEG — Dozens of animals with broken limbs have been keeping the Winnipeg Human Society busy and they’re asking Winnipeggers for help.

19 dogs and cats were brought to the organization’s doorstep in April, 14 were treated and are recovering, while 4 were so badly hurt they had to be euthanized.

“Breeding season for cats occurs in the warmer months, and unfixed animals follow their natural instincts to wander in search of other unfixed animals,” Dr. Erika Anseeuw, Director of Animal Health at the Winnipeg Humane Society said in a news release on Friday. “This can lead to serious injuries like getting hit by cars.”

Cats that have been fixed are less likely to wander and get themselves hurt. The Humane Society offers a program to those who can’t afford the operation that can cost as much as $200.

The SNAP program is offered through the non-profit and is designed to help those who can’t afford to spay or neuter their animal. If done through the program, the operation can be performed for around $30. If you’re interested in signing up you can find more information on their website.

The 14 animals that are now recovering need a home to stay and the Humane Society is short on foster homes. A month to two month commitment is needed and all supplies are provided. If you’re interested you can find more information on foster care here.
