Translink installing fare gates and card readers on Millennium line

More Skytrain stations will be getting fare gates and card readers starting this week.

The devices have already been installed along parts of the Expo and Canada lines, and on Monday Translink crews are turning their attention to the Millenium line.

Construction is set to begin at the Lougheed Town Centre Skytrain station in Burnaby and will continue for the next several months. 

It will be more than a year before transit riders begin using the gates and card readers, which are part of a new smart card system designed to cut down on fare evasion and monitor Metro Vancouver commuting patterns.
