Olympians among familiar names to carry Toronto Pan Am Games torch

TORONTO – Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds, figure skater Patrick Chan, and two-time Olympic moguls champion Alexandre Bilodeau will run legs of the Pan Am Games torch relay.

The trio was among a list of familiar names announced 19 days before the relay sets off.

Others included NASCAR driver J.R. Fitzpatrick, hockey player Darnell Nurse, Olympic cycling medallist Steve Bauer, retired soccer player Dwayne De Rosario and singer-songwriters Jim Cuddy and Amanda Martinez.

Some 3,000 torchbearers will run legs of the 41-day relay that begins May 30 and concludes with the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremony on July 10.

The torch relay will cover 5,000 kilometres on the road and 15,000 kilometres by air.
