WATCH ABOVE: Robert Durst has a court hearing in New Orleans, on a bizarre incident from last summer at a Houston CVS.
Newly released security video shows multimillionaire and murder suspect Robert Durst appearing to urinate on a candy rack at a CVS pharmacy in Houston last July.
The surveillance video appears to show the eccentric wealthy New York real estate heir walking up to the register and exposing his penis before relieving himself in front of a customer and an employee.
In the video a shocked customer behind Durst can been seen backing away before moving to another register, while the cashier reaches for the stores telephone.
Durst appears undaunted by the whole event and casually picks up his backpack off the counter before exiting the store. He later turned himself into police and was fined after pleading no contest to criminal mischief in December of 2014, according to The Associated Press.
Durst’s lawyer, Chip Lewis, told NBC affiliate KPRC that the incident was the result of recent medical procedures his client had undergone at the time.
“This was a medical mishap, plain and simple. He had to go and he couldn’t hold it,” said Lewis.
Durst’s lawyer added that he had previously visited the store often and was embarrassed by the incident.
“He was embarrassed in that aspect. The people that were so good to him were put, themselves, in an embarrassing situation,” Lewis told KPRC.
Durst, 72, is currently in jail in Louisiana on federal gun charges and also faces a first-degree murder charge in California in connection with the murder of Susan Berman, a long-time friend of Durst’s who was found shot in the back of the head in Los Angeles in 2000.
Durst is the estranged member of a family of wealthy real estate developers in Manhattan, N.Y., that also operate 1 World Trade Center. He was the subject of the recent HBO documentary The Jinx, which detailed suspicion about his involvement in the disappearance of his first wife, Kathie; the killing and dismemberment of his neighbour Morris Black in Galveston, Texas, and the execution-style murder of Susan Berman.
In the final episode of the documentary, Durst is caught on a live-microphone muttering to himself “What did I do? Killed them all, of course.”
Authorities in Los Angeles issued a warrant for his arrest in Berman’s murder shortly after the finale of the documentary aired.
