CALGARY – An investigation is underway into a fatal dog attack that happened last week in Calgary’s Mission neighbourhood. Kyler Jullyan says his Maltese Cross, Madeline, was attacked by another dog while both dogs were off leash near the Elbow River.

Jullyan alleges the dog’s owner ran off before he could get his information.

“To run away? You know you’ve done something wrong, you don’t offer help, you literally run away and hide your dog? What kind of people do that?” said Jullyan.

Madeline died shortly after the attack at a veterinarian’s office. Jullyan has been left with a $6,000 vet bill and wants the dog’s owners to be held responsible.

“They need to pay for it; they need to pay for their mistake. They need to be punished. Maybe have a lesson in humanity, compassion?”

Animal and Bylaw Services is investigating the incident.

“As Animal and Bylaw Services, we’re really big advocates and educators of teaching people how to be responsible pet owners and in incidences like this, it definitely indicates that these people perhaps are not,” said spokesperson Carissa Vescio.
