EDMONTON – As work continues on the 102 Avenue bridge, Groat Road will once again be closed this weekend.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Groat Road will be completely closed between 107 Avenue and River Valley Road. It will remain closed until 6 a.m. Monday.

The road closure comes amid ongoing work to remove the damaged bridge girders.

The city said Wednesday crews have successfully removed girders number six and seven. Contractors plan to remove girders four and five this weekend.

Girders four, five and six will then be assessed by a team of engineers at the manufacturer’s facility to find out if they can be repaired or if they will have to be replaced.

During the closure this weekend, parking will also be banned along the east side of 116 Street between 100 Avenue and Jasper Avenue, and on 109 Street between 99 Avenue and 102 Avenue. Access to the multi-use path next to Groat Road will not be available during the closure.
