TORONTO – A rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather might happen after Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said Pacquiao is open to the idea.
On Tuesday, Mayweather said in a text message to ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith that he would welcome a rematch with Pacquiao.
“I will fight him in a year after his surgery,” the text read.
Pacquiao, who lost to Mayweather in a unanimous decision on Saturday, is expected to undergo surgery this week for a rotator cuff tear.

On Wednesday, Arum told ESPN he and his client would reevaluate Mayweather’s proposal post-surgery.
“We first have to make sure the rotator cuff heals well,” Arum told ESPN. “Dr. ElAttrache is a famous surgeon, one of the best in the business, so I’m confident the surgery will work, and if it does, why wouldn’t we entertain a rematch?”
Pacquiao suffered the injury about four weeks prior to Saturday’s match and failed to disclose the injury to the Nevada Athletic Commission.
