TORONTO – If you dream of owning a Tesla vehicle – but can’t afford the hefty price tag – you might be in luck. The luxury electric car maker has begun selling pre-owned models on its website at a discount for the first time.

For Canadians, the pre-owned vehicle selection varies depending on the city you wish to purchase from – including Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. The vehicles range from 2012 to 2014 models and include the Tesla 85, P85 and P85+.

For example, a Tesla P85 with 45,624 kilometres will cost you $74,500. A similar model would have cost you about US$120,000 during its release.

A 2013 P85+ with 32,884 km, complete with Tesla’s tech package and panoramic roof, runs $92,000. A similar model with those upgrades would have cost upwards of $140,000.

Tesla is also offering a four-year 50,000-mile limited warranty with each pre-owned vehicle.

If these prices are still out of your budget, hope remains for a less expensive Tesla model.

In July 2014, the automaker announced plans to release a third-generation car dubbed the Model 3, which will retail for US$35,000 – half the price of the Model S.
