May Day protests: Montreal schools protest cuts to education

MONTREAL — Teachers, parents and schoolchildren across Montreal staged a May Day protest on Friday morning.

Called “Je protège mon école publique” (Protect your public school), the demonstration is being held to denounce Quebec’s cuts in education.

Québec solidaire MNA Françoise David took part in the event at Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf School, where a human chain was formed around the school to protest underfunding.

Event organizers said 25 schools participated.
