EDMONTON – A suspect dubbed the “Crash test bandit” by police – because of the motorcycle helmet he wore during a series of armed robberies – has been arrested and charged.
Investigators with the Edmonton Police Service have charged 36-year-old Neijoha Swinka Munroe, of Golden, B.C., with 24 offences. Those offences include seven counts of armed robbery, seven counts of using a disguise with intent and five counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
Police say the accused wore a motorcycle helmet during a series of 11 robberies that happened over a six-week period. They took place throughout March and April in Calgary, St. Albert and Edmonton.

The accused was under surveillance on April 23 when he was arrested in the parking lot of an Edmonton bank. Police say he had a pellet gun and a motorcycle helmet in his possession when he was taken into custody.
He allegedly committed eight armed robberies at the following financial institutions:
March 13 – 136 Avenue and 50 Street in Edmonton
March 14 – 118 Avenue and 39 Street in Edmonton
March 15 – 38 Avenue and Calgary Trail in Edmonton
March 15 – 20 Avenue and 34 Street in Calgary
April 2 – Hebert Road in St. Albert
April 7 – 118 Avenue and 40 Street in Edmonton
April 17 – 96 Avenue and 142 Street in Edmonton
April 19 – 24 Avenue and Guardian Road in Edmonton
Munroe is also alleged to have committed two armed robberies at the following commercial businesses:
March 15 – 38 Avenue and Memorial Drive in Calgary
March 28 – 160 Avenue and 37 Street in Edmonton
