Alberta Election 2015: NDP’s Chris Neilsen wins Edmonton-Decore

The NDP’s Chris Neilsen has won in the riding of Edmonton-Decore.

Neilsen had a decisive victory in early results: winning 67 per cent of the vote to PC incumbent Janice Sarich’s 18 per cent.

Sarich had held the seat since 2008 and once served as the parliamentary assistant to the education minister.

Neilsen works at a Lucerne Foods ice cream plant, and has been the union shop steward for 15 years.

This north central riding has been held by both Progressive Conservative and Liberal MLAs since it was created in 2004 during a boundary redistribution.
