REGINA – The provincial government is providing $250,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for disaster relief in Nepal.

The death toll from a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake surpassed 4,000 on Monday. Thousands more are homeless after tremors shook much of the region over the weekend including the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu.

“Imagine trying to rebuild, or even think about rebuilding, when you maybe haven’t even found your loved ones and you’re fearful of another earthquake,” said Premier Brad Wall “I can’t even fathom it.”

Saskatchewan has made similar Red Cross donations for disaster relief in the Philippines, Japan, Haiti and Pakistan over the last five years.

Canada is sending more relief supplies to Nepal and will match donations to a fund specifically set up to help people in that country.
