VANCOUVER – Global BC has been honoured with a prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for its coverage of last summer’s Mount Polley Mine disaster.

When the news of the tailings pond breach first broke last August, Global BC was quick to get crews in the area, speak to concerned members of the community, obtain information from the company, Imperial Metals, and was the first to show viewers what the disaster looked like from the air.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Global BC continued its coverage of the breach for days and weeks after the event, including the water restrictions for residents and the rebuilding of the tailings pond.

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) made the announcement about the win Thursday morning in Washington, D.C.

Global BC‘s win for Best News Series is the RTDNA’s international category, which includes entries from around the world.
