WATCH: Ben Affleck fuels up at Nova Scotia gas station

TORONTO — A fishing village in Nova Scotia got a taste of Hollywood last week when Ben Affleck strolled into a local gas station.

Mike Gibbon, who was working at Cormier’s Service Station in Cheticamp, said he was shocked to see the new Batman fueling up his rented SUV and buying a Gatorade.

Affleck kept his head down and wore a toque, according to Gibbon.

“I was like, ‘Ben?’ and then he looked just a tiny bit and was, like, ‘Yeah’ and then I was, like, ‘Ben Affleck?’ And then he looked up completely and pulled up his hat a bit.”

Gibbon said he shook Affleck’s hand but didn’t ask for a photo with him.

The gas station’s security camera, though, captured the celebrity customer.

No one is certain why Affleck was in Cheticamp, which is located on the Cape Breton’s Cabot Trail about two hours from Sydney — and a day’s drive from Affleck’s native Boston.

(There are reports that, earlier in the week, Affleck purchased a pair of boots from Spinner’s Men’s Wear in Sydney.)

Some have speculated the 42-year-old Oscar winner was visiting a nearby Buddhist monastery; others guess he was shopping for property.

Affleck may also have been scouting locations for his next directorial project, an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel Live By Night. The prohibition-era crime drama will star Zoe Saldana, Elle Fanning and Sienna Miller.

Affleck has not tweeted about his trip and his reps have not responded to media inquiries. The actor was photographed in Los Angeles on April 8 and again on April 19.

Affleck recently completed work on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is scheduled for release next March.

Affleck is not the first Hollywood star to pop up in Nova Scotia. Actor Ethan Hawke owns a summer home in Tracadie, about two hours west of Sydney.

The province has also provided the setting for films and TV shows that have brought stars like Julianne Moore, Kevin Spacey, Judi Dench, Michelle Williams and Tom Selleck.
