EDMONTON – A well-known Edmonton businessman and philanthropist has died.
Don Wheaton died in Naples, Florida on December 29th. Wheaton is best known for the Chevrolet dealership on Whyte Avenue that bears his name.

Over the years his business expanded to include other dealerships, aviation services, insurance and Canada’s first privately held chartered bank.
Wheaton also supported a wide variety of community and charitable causes, including the YMCA, which named it’s downtown location after him in 2007.
Wheaton is survived by his wife Marion and eight children. He was 88 years old.
