SASKATOON – The Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) is reminding people the rural municipality surrounding the city is under a fire ban. Rural Saskatchewan residents are asked not to allow open flame fires to be lit until further notice.

On Monday afternoon, Saskatoon crews responded to a grass fire that burned around two acres south of the city in the Hamlet of Furdale. The blaze was contained to the property of origin and no injuries were reported.

SFD has nine fire service agreements that extend beyond its civic responsibility and bills rural landowners when its services are used. Insurance does not help cover charges when fire bans are in effect.

The fire departments serving the RM of Corman Park requested that a full fire ban be implemented on April 14 due to extremely dry conditions. The RMs of Montrose and Vanscoy also have fire bans in place.

Corman Park’s website says once the area receives adequate moisture and conditions have improved, the ban will be ended.

Once the fire ban is lifted in Corman Park, residents are expected to contact the Saskatoon Fire Department at 306-975-3030 to notify them of controlled burns.
