Calgary man to try 49 kinds of poutine during city’s Poutine Week

CALGARY – A Calgary man is really “pou-tine” it away this week to help others get a meal.

Kyle MacQuarrie is trying to eat 49 different versions of poutine during Poutine Week.

Various restaurants around town are serving up variations on this Canadian classic — many going beyond the standard fries with gravy and cheese curds.

The restaurants are hoping to be crowned Calgary’s best poutine makers, based on diners’ votes.

Poutine Week began April 18, and runs until Saturday, April 25.

For every poutine dish sold during the week, the restaurants will cover the costs of a meal for a disadvantaged Calgarian through the Mealshare charity.

MacQuarrie is eating almost nothing but poutine for the week, hoping to inspire others to get involved with the event.
